Inspired by the Parisian Folies Bergère, Florenz Ziegfeld and his wife Anna Held, founded the Ziegfeld Follies in New York, in 1907. The Follies produced lavish revues, mingling the aesthetic of top Broadway shows and vaudeville variety. The productions featured beautiful chorus girls, the Ziegfeld Girls, who sang and dance, adorned in Erté or Lucile costumes. These ladies were considered the first Boudoir and “pinned-up” images of the time.
