International TV Coverage at VLV!

Hi Cats!

So I haven't blogged in a way hot minute, mostly because I'm so busy I just don't have time. I've had many covers of Pin Up Magazines since the last blog, including more international mags like Bombshell Magazine!

Speaking if international, this is a good segue into what developed with our annual photo shoot trip to Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend. While planning this year, I was connected to and contacted by RTL, the biggest private television broadcaster and content network in Europe, based in Cologne, Germany! They wanted to film me doing a photoshoot during the Car Show as part of a cover story of Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend!

I had the option of choosing my own model and knew Millie Rose Mitchell was the perfect gal to work with as she is a dedicated member of the rockabilly community. I met Millie years ago when she competed and won a pin up contest I sponsored which earned her a photoshoot with a B-17 Bomber in Erie, PA that became some of my favorite images ever.

Johanna Schnuepke (reporter) and Markus Langen (videographer) of RTL covered many events over the VLV weekend and were incredible to work with. Johanna fully immersed herself into the culture, went shopping for the perfect outfit, got her hair & makeup done by professional stylist Heather Riot, got dancing lessons, attended the pool party, and even became a model for the photoshoot with Penny.

For the filming of the shoot Markus equipped Penny with a microphone to record audio while posing which was a first for me and quite a confidence boost. I can not express the gratitude for the connections I have made, and after this I'm proud of myself for putting in the networking efforts I have done to make opportunities like this happen!

As a professional photographer that provides empowering Photo Shoot Experiences for my clients and putting them in front of the camera like this, I truly felt elevated and grateful for the opportunity. It was such a truly memorable EXPERIENCE!

We're INTERNATIONALLY COVER PUBLISHED!

Hey y'all, Pin Up Penny here writing after a few months of not blogging! If you know me, you know that I'm a story teller with images and so much words, but this one I'm STOKED about!

Last spring, we offered Grimm's Fairy Tale themed Creative Photo Shoots and had so much fun creating the unique sets, wardrobe, and stories! One of our new-to-us clients who's an up-and-coming model and actress, Malia Mann, booked a Grimm's Experience with us. As soon as I learned she's always wanted to do a Mermaid photo shoot I knew exactly what we had to do! We turned our forest Grimm's set into an underwater scene and then modified our hot tub into an "ocean tide pool!"

This Photo Experience was super thrilling for our team, and we knew we had to show these special images off to the world. I submitted to Femme Rebelle Magazine , and one of my images was selected for the July issue of their "Allure" series! Femme Rebelle is an alt fashion magazine out of the UK, and we are super honored to work with them and be featured as cover model, cover photographer, and cover makeup artist Rae_O_Sunshine.

This photoshoot was particularly exciting for me because Malia is comfortable in her own skin, has worked very hard for the body she has and was willing to be open and free to show it off. She was able to be more natural, the way that a mermaid would be getting their legs in a tide pool for the first time!

My fiancée and I recently became huge fans of the Canadian television sitcom Schitt's Creek, so much that we're rewatching it through a second time back-to-back! This show is HILARIOUS, relatable, inclusive, empowering, and has the most beautiful love story of two adult men!

In the sitcom "Schitt's Creek," a wealthy couple -- video store magnate Johnny and his soap opera star wife Moira -- suddenly find themselves completely broke. With only one remaining asset, a small town called Schitt's Creek, which the Roses bought years earlier as a joke, this once-wealthy couple must give up life as they know it. With their two spoiled children in tow and their pampered lives behind them, the Rose family is forced to face their newfound poverty head-on and come together as a family to survive.

In Season 2, episode 9 Moira finds herself in a heated election campaign and learns from her opponent Jocelyn of some nude photographs of her on the Internet. Admitting the existence of such photos to her family, technologically challenged Moira has to get those around her who she trusts to help her find those photographs and remove them from cyberspace. This task ends up being more challenging than Moira hopes, but in the process she begins to have bittersweet thoughts about the existence of the photos themselves. Let's listen to her advice...

Updates, Email Ghosting & Holiday Shoots!

Long time no bloggies!...

Well, hey there! It's been quite a LONG TIME since I've had time to write a post, holy moly!

I've been hella busy this past year and business has been GOOD! It's quite a LOT as a fiancée (oh yeah, I'm engaged! ...maybe that will be a future blog post! Ha!) anyhoo, and Mom of 2 middle school aged kiddos, one being special needs, to keep up with. My career continues to allow me to be flexible for my family though, while doing my creative passion, and I wouldn't want it any other way!

This past year has been filled with MANY sexy and glamorous Boudoir Photo Shoot Experiences, as well as a few Specialty & Fantastical Shoot Experiences! In July we photographed 10 gorgeous gals for our annual WWII shoots Experiences, partially in the rain which created a super dramatic backdrop that was perfect for our European Theater theme! See some of these gals published in the upcoming issue of Rocket Magazine !

Speaking of Rocket Magazine ...we made another COVER!

This Experience was truly a DREAM SHOOT for me because I raised the monarch butterflies that are featured in these pictures! I've been a "Monarch Mom" collecting eggs and providing food and habitat for them for about 5 years and LOVE it! This year we released about 125 babies and 7 of them are in these images of this Josette DeMorté who trusted me with my creative freedom to create this beautiful set! The glamorous dressing gown featured is created by the famous Catherine D'Lis h and MUAH by Rae O' Sunshine . Get your own copy of the issue at Rocket-mag.com !

Ok, here's what I really want to say...

Over the course of probably too much time I have figured out that the interwebs has been filtering out a LOT of my emails! I have learned that email platform like G��gle and Yah�� have not only been sending my email mailing list campaigns, but also email RESPONSES TO INQUIRIES from YOU MY CLIENTS to "Junk" and "Promotions Folders. I feel terrible that MANY of you may have inquired about my services, I've responded, you thought I ghosted you, but the internet was ghosting me!

I have had the same email address since I started my business 14 years ago. ( Penny @pennyshaut.com ) What I've recently learned is that the big email hosting companies, as well as a lot of corporate sites, think any emails coming from that address are considered "promotional" and thinks you automatically don't want to see it...even if you've signed up to see it...or even if it's a direct email response from your inquiry!

That being said...

I apologize if any of you have ever reached out (via form here or email) and NOT GOT A RESPONSE ! I try my darnedest to get back to everyone and don't want any of you to think I've ghosted you! PLEASE try again if this has happened to you!

I will now be using my personal gmail address for business communications. I have already tested this out and it's working. You may have received an email this week from me about our Kitschmas shoots !

I've sent out several update emails over the past year and I'm so sorry if you subscribed and never got them! I hope you finally get to see my content if you have chosen to see it!

Yikes, what a wild time to be living!

Raise your hand if you're one of the millions of struggling Moms right now, trying to fight for your kids in whatever crazy schooling situation you are in, while keeping your own career going...or surviving a day of cyber learning at home with your kids, or if you know a Mama trying to keep it going!

Now, reach your arms out and give yourself a HUGE hug...or go hug the ones you know! We deserve it! Being a MOM right now is insane! Mamas, YOU GOT THIS, she got this, we WILL survive this!

In my home currently, it's as wild as an episode of "I Love Lucy"!! I recently went to the Desi & Lucy Museum in Jamestown, NY and it was worth the trip!

I don't usually talk about my personal life very much, but since I feel like it seems the universe is fighting against me in what I WANT to do, I think it's time to get real about what these times mean for me and my family's unforeseen future.

Here we go!...

I am Mama to two kiddos, age 13 and 10, both now in middle school. It's been almost a year with the love of my life, and now second Mom to my kids, my "K-10". I'm ridiculously in love, and it's been an incredible year despite all the craziness!!!

I primarily run my photography business alone these days, with the occasional help of set building and social media from my also Hair & Make Up Artist Miss Petunia Curls ! Seriously, our amazing spaceship set for Space Babes was my concept, her seeing my vision, and running with it! You have to see it!

Up until "Covid times", home life was great with my kids going to school each day, where I primarily worked when they were gone each weekday. My business was flourishing and I was finally fulfilling my dreams of travel shooting!

Then Covid Quarantine hit, and I was shut down, which completely was so frustrating!

I won't get into details about how small businesses were denied unemployment at first, and me not receiving any financial aid through this whole thing. It doesn't matter. It sucked for all of us, and we're still feeling the repercussions. It's so sad to see many local small businesses forced to go out of business now after lifetime dedication.

In my case I've always been a SURVIVOR. I've been through a LOT! My Mom raised me to be strong and positive, even in the dark times. I refuse to give up and have no choice but to keep going!

When I reopened we booked July & August FULL! We did many wonderful Pin Up and Boudoir Photo Experiences for many happy ladies! I am SO GRATEFUL for my amazing repeat (and new) clients who bought into our Gift Card Sale during shut down, and/or have booked a shoot since! THANK YOU SO MUCH ladies!

In summer, at home my kids did well at home with minimal supervision. Summer has always been nuts, but it's usually 3 months of "I can get through this" and then a countdown until they get BACK ON THE BUS! Any moms relate?!

This year, I have found that going back to our "normal" school-year routine is just not possible. In our school district, my kids are physically going to school, but only for 2.5 hours/day!! What?!

Many may not know that my 5th grade son is considered "Special Needs". I hate labels, but his with ADHD and DMDD (he just got that new diagnosis today actually), it boils down to a LOT OF ENERGY needed to mother this not-so-small-anymore, defiant, young, male human. Think of a bouncing, flying monkey, who eats everything in site, while arguing why he should be able to have Youtube all day...when he actually should be IN SCHOOL LEARNING! Anyone ever see the TV show/comic "Dennis the Menace" yeah, that's my kid!

We are also doing therapy, med management, and appointments, etc. multiple times per week currently. He needs me in the mornings until the school goes back full time, which has completely changed that routine I so miss.

What does this mean for ME?!

For for Pin Up Penny Photography it means I have to limit the amount of Photo Shoot Experiences I offer right now. I am only able to fit in 1-2 shoots per week, in the afternoon/early evenings, and an occasional weekend. I am limited time for social media, and my turn-around time for edits and photo product orders has also increased.

I juggle home life, and then EVERYTHING involved with this biz, including marketing, clerical, scheduling, consultations, planning, creating, shooting, photo reveals, editing, designing, ordering, finances, mag submissions, and SO MUCH more. It's a LOT for one gal to do on her own.

Bookings and amazing clients have proven that I can keep going with this, but the way that I conduct my business has to change for the time being. I have to slow down, take care of my kids, shoot less, and make the photography shoot Experiences I do get to create SPECTACULAR!

We're going GREEN baby!

Woweee, this Small Business Owner grateful for Erie County FINALLY going GREEN , and getting back to work!

Like many, this Covid time has been truly been financially grueling and slightly scary! I have received zero help from the government, and was honestly facing potentially losing my studio if things didn't open back up! I'm very fortunate though for my loyal and new clients who purchased gift cards during our sale, and I have now booked up all the way through August! July is almost BOOKED SOLID!

After being a photographer for 21 years, in business for 13 years, and niching in Boudoir & Pin Up for 7, I can truly say that my career focus is my passion. Retro Camping Set

A Retro Camping Set has been on my MUST SHOOT LIST for long time! I myself am a die-hard camper, and this one will personally be so fun for me!

We are setting up at a local older and unknown Edinboro, PA campground that is the perfect location! Not only do we have a vintage "silver bullet" Airstream Camper and all the old campy furnishings to go with, but look at the shower-house! I would love to have a gal wrapped in a towel, popping out of the door with bubbles behind her!

There are ponds, swings, outhouses...even a sea-saw which could be fun for 2 gals together! This Camping set/wardrobe can be themed 50's, 60's, 70's, kitschy, tiki, hillbilly (think beer can rolls in hair!), etc. I have soooo many ideas, but let's customize it to YOUR STYLE! ⛺️

We are taking a Trip to the "Pacific Theater" on the beaches of Lake Erie in Conneaut, Ohio! Pose with a WWII Army Jeep, Indian Scout motorcycle with sidecar, and authentic vintage weaponry!

Think Classic Pin Up, Hawaiian, tropical, tiki, island wear, bathing suits, and hair flowers! You also could bring your grandfather's uniform, or whatever reenactment wardrobe you have in your closet!

Hair & Makeup included. Wardrobe is not included with these sessions, but you may come to the studio to look prior to your Experience. Or we'll refer you to our Vintage Clothing Reseller friend to help you find your perfect look! Weapons, memorabilia, and even a few gentlemen in authentic uniform will be available for each session!

Vegas is on our minds again...someone pinch me! The upcoming Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender 2020 is practically around the corner, and WE'RE PLANNING OUR TRIP BACK! EEEP! I realized I never blogged about our first year adventures...

...but first, a little back story...

Since I started my niche in Pin Up and Boudoir Photography last 8 years ago, it has always been a DREAM of mine to make it to the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly weekender ! If you don't know anything about it, to sum it up, it's pretty much the biggest vintage, rockabilly, pin up, burlesque, music, car cruise, photo shoot events in the world!

To understand how I finally made it to Las Vegas for "VLV 22", rewind to summer 2018...

Every July Erie, PA holds the Gears and Grub Festival, showcasing local food, artists, musicians, and more. During the festival last year, we hosted the first Miss Gem City Pin Up Competition, where we met the beautiful and humble Miss Millie Rose Mitchell . This active duty military, vintage loving, glamorous gal took the crown, and the title of Miss Gem City 2018. With this win she was awarded a photoshoot with us, and the timing was right to take her photographs during our WWII B17 Bomber Experience Weekend at the Erie International Airport! These images ended up being published on the cover, with a few inside spreads, in the 2018 Military Tribute issue of Beach Beauties Magazine !

Millie then used her favorite image I photographed to submit into the 2019 Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender Miss Pin Up Competition. What an excitement it was when she was chosen as “Contestants Choice” via Facebook votes from all the other over 200+ contestants from ALL OVER THE WORLD trying to make the cut!

She was immediately set to walk the stage in the Las Vegas competition! That’s when we knew it was time to pack up the cameras and fulfill a dream of mine! Most importantly, we had to go cheer on our now good friend Millie!

To make the trip possible we offered and booked Vegas Photo Experiences in multiple locations, and obtained guaranteed publishing again before we even flew out! To be honest, this was only my 3rd trip out-west and I was coming out of my skin with excitement!

Our first Vegas Photo Shoot Experience took us to Freemont Street with Miss Petunia Curls!

WOW, was that a crazy adventure! There were constant lighting changes from all of the lit buildings, massive crowds of wild people, and the occasional curious passerby who would stop to ask what we were doing or to snag a photo themselves. Heck I even ended up lying on the ground for a few photos! (In hind sight I probably should have showered immediately, but that's me to sacrifice body for the sake of getting the good shots!)

The next day we hopped over to the start of the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Car Cruise! We were lucky enough to connect with a local car club, "that's not a car club", before our trip, and boy did we have fun with those guys! I photographed multiple gals with a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500, as well as other cool rides in the group!

The full Car Cruise Saturday was such a blast! We shopped amazing retro vendors, were fed carne asada (YUM!), met cool cats, listened to good music, took more photos, AND met the lovely gals from Rocket Magazine ! A few images from our Freemont Street Experience, as well the Car Cruise, ended up published in the Viva Las Vegas 2019 Special Edition . I am also honored to have my work published several times in their stellar Pin Up themed magazine since!!

Our final shoot location took us pool-side where I photographed Miss Petunia Curls and Rae O’ Sunshine! These colorful photos ended up published in the “Girls of Summer” Beach Beauties Magazine issue!

One of our Pin Up’s, Miss Petunia Curls, took this trip from our neck-of-the-woods and turned it into a dream Birthday vacation ! She booked not 1, not 2, but 3 shoots with us, AND joined in on all kinds of Viva Las Vegas Photo fun! I will never forget the amazing memories we created together, and loved every minute of it!

I know, I don't want to think about it either...

Hi everyone! It has been way too long since I wrote a blog! We've been VERY busy! This is wordy, but it’s a blog...that’s expected right? SO MANY amazing things have happened in the past few months! I've been playing big time catch-up on Photoshoots and edits since the beginning of the school year! I did finally had a few cute pictures taken of ME, by my long-time Erie photographer buddy Kat Ritenour!

I've also been taking the time to REALLY focus on my clients in the Experience I am creating for them! What I offer is not just quick "pop in front of someone’s camera and hope for the best" type of photo shoots. I invest time into getting to know the ladies (and people) I work with. I want to know what you love about yourself, and what you don’t. I have now have 20 years behind the camera, and 8 years of photographing women! That makes me feel old, but means that you're not getting some rookie who just bought an SLR (or gawdforfid using your PHONE!) pretending to be a professional. You're getting a gal who cares and has the experience to make you LOOK AMAZING ! I customize your entire Experience to YOU, and strive to provide images that YOU LOVE AND FEEL GORGEOUS in!

My favorite part of the entire process is in our Photo Reveal appointment where you get to see in your images how amazing you are ! With each gal’s Experience I try to create a short story to follow through the images. My favorite photo product I offer, and what I want to put in everyone's hands, are my Custom Luxe Album sets! This includes an album with 30 or less of favorite images chosen at the Photo Reveal. These images get lightly retouched including skin smoothing, blemish removal, and a little nip or tuck where needed. This is done only if something is out of place that we missed in posing or a wardrobe issue. These albums are top quality, handmade in Portugal, and can be ordered in a selection of unique covers!
